Andre Huie: Building a media empire
In the tiny Caribbean nation of St. Kitts and Nevis, lives a young man destined to build a media empire. A native of Jamaica, Andre Nicholas Huie has been a professional journalist for 16 years, working with two small newspapers in Jamaica: Clarendon Power News and The Real News Newspapers. He later moved to another Caribbean island: Dutch St. Maarten, where he worked at the Today Newspaper as Assistant Editor and journalist for almost eight years. He then moved to St. Kitts and Nevis in August 2009 where he worked for six years at WINN FM 98.9 as a broadcast journalist for six years. Having garnered all those years of experience, Huie is now putting his knowledge at work by co-founding and building Palm Branch Media, a multi-media production company. The company operates three divisions: Voice of the Caribbean Radio (www.voiceofthecaribbean.net), which Huie launched on October 7th 2015; JIFE Music, a gospel music record label and the newly launched SKN Newsline: an audio-visual news website focused on St. Kitts and Nevis.
VOC Radio features several programs including the Caribbean News Hour, which is a comprehensive Caribbean news package comprising the Carib Update News Service and Caribbean Sports Roundup. The Caribbean News Hour also includes international news from United Nations Radio. Programs also featured on VOC Radio include: The VOC Report, which features in depth interviews and presentations by some of the Caribbean’s top newsmakers with Huie as host; Inside Politics—a half-hour program focused on analyzing some of the news of the week in Caribbean politics with guest analysts from around the region. The most recent show featured a Jamaican-American who voted for Donald Trump; an episode which got some interesting feedback online. Persons wanting to listen to some of these programs on demand can also do so in the VOC On Demand page on the station’s website.
VOC Radio also has a mobile app: patrons can search for VOC Radio in the Apple App Store or the Google Play store to download the app free of cost.
Just recently, VOC Radio added to its program lineup: Business and the Bible, hosted and produced by Dr. Will Moreland, America’s #1 P3 Speaker and Strategist. The program airs on Sundays at 12 noon with rebroadcasts on Mondays at 6am and 9pm. Also on January 5th 2017, VOC Radio will debut a one hour special of Dr. Vernet Joseph’s Relationships 3D radio show at 10am. The show will air every Thursday at 10am, 6pm and 9pm. (All times listed are Eastern Caribbean Time)
