Even though, I am not a diehard comic junkie, I absolutely love “Marvel” sci-fi movies. The action, heroes, and special effects are usually phenomenal!! This movie is no different. I was truly dizzy watching the “kaleidoscope” style special effects in 3D.
Based on fictional superhero, Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange, who first appeared in American “Marvel” comic books Strange Tales #110 (July 1963). Doctor Strange was a brilliant but arrogant and egotistical surgeon. After a careless car accident (No Texting and Driving!!) destroys the nerves in his hands and hinders his ability to perform surgery, he searches the globe for a way to repair them and finds the sorcerer known as The Ancient One. Stephen finally accepts his previous career is over and gets a new lease on life when the Ancient One, takes him under her wing and trains him in martial arts as well as mystical arts. After becoming a “prodigy” student, the Ancient One shares the awesome burden of defending the world against evil in the universe. I was very impressed by Dr. Strange’s growth during his “spiritual” awakening. It was utterly refreshing to see a movie that did not glorify his self centered and materialistic beginnings. That part of him had to be extinguished before he could truly heal mind, body and soul. Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor do a spectacular job of drawing you into this mysterious journey of self discovery. You will completely enjoy this high energy ride to enlightenment!
