Something New Under The Sun

“Something New Under The Sun”

By:  Dr. Charles Johnson

In crossing the threshold into a “potential filled” 2012 or New Year, I wanted to take the opportunity to congratulate you on your successes of the previous year and to encourage you concerning your upcoming endeavors. As I sat in my office pondering and awaiting “divine dictation” as to what to share, I was led to a familiar scripture that made me take note of its relevance to the season and my desire.

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 1:9 KJV)

For a brief back drop, the author of Ecclesiastes 1:9 happens to be one of the most insightful and wisest men to ever walk the earth. King Solomon is noted for his wealth and wisdom throughout the civilized world for thousands of years and a true example of the kind of “Kingdom Success” that only God can provide. But as I read the text, I found a revelation of a difference that I believe to be crucial to our success for the upcoming year.

King Solomon seems to provide a somewhat pessimistic and limiting proclamation as he looks out over the vast canvas of man’s exploits and declares that “there is nothing new under the sun.” He must have without a doubt seen the copies and knock-offs that accompanied fadish success, and entertained the “Dream Pirates” of his time.

Because of this I believe that Solomon was not saying that there was nothing new, but that due to where the people of his day looked for inspiration, concepts and ideas to accompany their dreams, new was not present; and so is it today as well.

I have found that many of our limitations reside within our imagination. So therefore, the stimulation of imagination can bring us into the unique, different and relevant. I believe that in Solomon’s time, people began to set their sights on things around them or under the sun so to speak, and hence, “…there is nothing new under the sun.” But what about above it?

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; (Hebrew 12:2a KJV)

Jesus is not only the author and finisher of your faith, but the Son above the sun. Your faith in Him and His word coexists with the vision or dream that He planted in your heart. Knowing this will catapult you into “the meta” or the greater for this year and refresh your dream.

I want you to look and consider your dreams from this perspective; No two snow flakes are alike as well as there are no two people that share the same finger print. Therefore your dreams are just as unique! They were sent to bring something new under the sun and make you relevant and unique in a mundane world! Your business is the new business under the sun! Your marriage is the new marriage under the sun! It is your responsibility to bring in the “New” this New Year! You are going to have to R.E.A.C.H. to do it:

RRecognize that you are unique and so is your dream.

EEndeavor to excel beyond the standards that you see around you.

AAdopt a mindset that places you in the exclusive and not just the inclusive.

CConsistency must be the oil that greases the wheels of your progress.

HHold yourself accountable to heaven for the dream you have been given.
