2013 GLM Highlight in Technology: Theodore Berger

Theodore Berger

Theodore Berger was chosen to be honored as one of our GLM Highlights in the area of Technology. His work on memory implants have been recognized by MIT Technology Review as one of the 10 Breakthrough Technologies of 2013.  He is a biomedical engineer and neuroscientist at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Berger believes he has deciphered the code by which the brain forms long-term memories with his breakthrough memory implants. For more than two decades, he has designed silicon chips to mimic the signal processing that those neurons do when they’re functioning properly. Berger points to the Cochlear implants that now help more than 200,000 deaf people hear for those who may be in disbelief.  Our GLM team salutes Theodore Berger for being recognized as one of the 10 Breakthrough Technologies of 2013.
